McLagan Residence, Residential Addition / Combination, Brooklyn, New York

The purpose of this project was to combine two apartment located on the sixth floor of an apartment building within Brooklyn Heights, into a single apartment residence The challenge was to divide the spaces of each apartment in a manner that according to its function would belie the overall length and narrow width of the finished residence.

The final design for the apartment designated each portion of its layout to a specific function, there by highlighting the size of new individual rooms, such as the Master Bedroom. The architectural design of the new apartment dedicates the northern half, beginning from the former common vestibule entrance to both apartments, as the public space assigned to the apartment with its large Living Room and fireplace, as well as the related Dining Area for entertainment.

The southern portion of the new apartment, from the former common vestibule entrance, leads to the private quarters of the apartment, although both ends of the apartment are designed and function as single dwelling unit.
