The 7th Avenue Modernization and expansion project was commissioned to analyze the potential of creating space above the facilities loading dock and services entrance. The program included the design of a new main entrance and identity for the hospital.
This study necessitated the reorganization and phasing of the various medical departments to provide much needed space for improved care and an increase of various medical services. Also included was a new ambulance entrance, Emergency Response station, decontamination showers and other disaster relief services. Considerable bulk for adding buildable floor area was uncovered and made available to the facility through The Design Alliance detailed zoning analysis and floor area ratio calculations.
The first phase of the project, The Kirkwood Clinic Addition, has been constructed and now links the Emergency Department with other medical areas.
